Today, we are pleased to announce that Gigasec Services Limited has renewed its Nigerian Communications Commission Automotive and Vehicular Tracking Services license for the period 2026–2030.
This renewal is more than a regulatory milestone. It is another important chapter in a journey that began over a decade ago.
The journey from 2013
When Gigasec was established in 2013, telematics in Nigeria was still widely understood as little more than placing a tracking device inside a vehicle and displaying its location on a map.
We believed the technology could do much more.
We envisioned a system that could help an organization answer critical operational questions:
Where are our vehicles, equipment, and mobile assets? Are they being used safely and for authorized purposes? How are drivers behaving on the road? Can we detect overspeeding, harsh braking, fatigue, or unauthorized movement? What is happening to fuel, temperature, cargo, and other field resources? Can managers receive useful alerts before an incident becomes a major loss? Can different devices, sensors, vehicles, and locations be managed from one environment?
These questions shaped our early investments in vehicle tracking, remote monitoring, field connectivity, system integration, and operational support.
In 2015, Gigasec secured its first NCC Automotive and Vehicular Tracking Services license, covering the 2015–2020 period. The license provided an important regulatory foundation for expanding our vehicle-tracking and telematics services.
But regulation was only one part of the journey.
We also had to develop the engineering competence, platforms, partnerships, field experience, and support structure required to serve organizations operating in some of Nigeria’s most demanding environments.
A defining milestone in the oil and gas industry
In 2019, Gigasec achieved another defining milestone when it became recognized as an approved in-vehicle monitoring system vendor for Shell operations.
This was significant for us because Oil and Gas telematics is not simply about knowing where a vehicle is located.
An IVMS deployed within a safety-critical environment must support journey management, driver accountability, road-safety compliance, incident prevention, and reliable reporting. The technology must continue to perform across difficult terrain, remote locations, inconsistent network coverage, and demanding operational schedules.
The recognition validated years of deliberate investment in our people, processes, technology, and understanding of industry-specific requirements.
As industry operations transitioned, Gigasec’s approved IVMS status and capabilities continued within the Renaissance ecosystem, strengthening our position as a trusted telematics solutions provider for the Nigerian Oil and Gas industry.
